SHE IS SUMMER

Meet Japanese music artist, MICO of SHE IS SUMMER.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi, I’m MICO, I’m a singer also known as SHE IS SUMMER.

Describe the city you’re living in and what it’s like to live there.

Tokyo is a place where you can meet different people who enjoy and live their own way of life without being bound by fixed concepts.

Hi, I’m MICO, I’m a singer also known as SHE IS SUMMER.

What is the best and worst thing about living in your city?

My favorite thing about Tokyo is that I get to live with my closest friends. What I hate the most is that the city is very chaotic and that the sky is very narrow.

Give us 3 words that describe what it’s like to be a creative in your city.

How did you start your career in music?

When I was a high school student, I hated school and was always withdrawn. I always preferred to create and do something on my own.

I always preferred to create and do something on my own.

Were the people around you supportive of your decision on working as a creative?

Ever since SHE IS SUMMER began, I’ve been supported by a lot of creative people like the art director of a Japanese design company, Lemonlife. I’ve also been collaborating with other creatives like Yui Nagase to create visual images. She has been with me since we connected via Facebook when I was a teenager.

What are some goals and ambitions you have for your future work?

Before I turn 80, I would like to be an artist who is able to make the best album of my life. I don’t just want to live for music, I want to make music with my life. I also like to travel. I would love to travel around the world for about a year.

I don’t just want to live for music, I want to make music with my life.

If you could collaborate with any person in the world who would it be?

Still Woozy Johnny Utah, and Jakob Ogawa.

How would you describe the women around you?

The women around me go through life in their own style. They do what they love and do not worry about others such as their marriage.

Were there any local female creatives that you looked up to when you were growing up?

I was inspired by a girl named Masami. She’s a year younger than be and worked at a cafe when she was 19 years old. Her

life story gave me a sense of freedom.

Are there any challenging aspects of being a female in your industry?
Sometimes I notice that I am the only woman in the workplace because there are a lot of men in the music industry.
I feel like sometimes it’s a challenge to be myself and be able to explain and express things that are unique to women.

There are too many things I could share but I think what’s most important is to take care of yourself.

Do you have any advice to young women who are aspiring to work in your field?

There are too many things I could share but I think what’s most important is to take care of yourself. The music industry is a profession that uses not only your talent but also your face and your name.
