Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a 3D motion designer based in London. My work revolves around celebrating Chinese culture. My skill set ranges from Adobe Suite, Cinema4D, Houdini, and Marvelous Designer.

Describe the city you’re living in and what it’s like to live there.

I live in the suburbs of London and I love being in close proximity to the city but also love the quietness and fresh air in the suburbs.

What is the best and worst thing about living in your city?

Best thing: Workaholic culture in London is big pressure.

Worst thing: There’s always something to do within London – it’s never boring.

Give us 3 words that describe what it’s like to be a creative in your city.

Vibrant, Cultured, Playful

How did you start your career in art?

I started during uni when I did an internship year during my studies. It really pushed me out of my comfort zone and I managed to secure 3 internships and volunteered to help at a design festival. Then after I worked on personal projects and posted on Instagram every so often and that has landed me some freelance gigs.

Were the people around you supportive of your decision on working as a creative?

Yes, my parents knew I had passions within art from a young age. I had a backup plan where if I didn’t enjoy my foundation class at uni, I would study economics but thank god I enjoyed my foundation year at LCC.

I want to keep learning and experiment with interactive mediums such as AR and VR. I also want to keep pushing my interest in Chinese culture and digital fashion forward. And lastly, I want to keep building 3D Wizards (a Discord community I created to help people learn 3D) and continue being resourceful and helpful to people.

What are some goals and ambitions you have for your future work?

If you could collaborate with any person in the world who would it be?

I would like to collaborate with Team Wang (Jackson Wang‘s brand). That would be a dream since we are both from Hong Kong and I admire his vision.

What are the biggest challenges you face in working as a creative?

Perfectionism. Workaholic. Those are my worst and best traits – I always need to find an equilibrium between those two.

How would you describe the women around you?

Strong, outspoken and righteous. I take after my mum.

Were there any local female creatives that you looked up to when you were growing up?

Unfortunately not, all I was taught at school was eurocentric artists and so I mostly looked up to anime and ghibli styles growing up as a kid and most of the time the artists were male. So there were no female creative representatives that were local to me whilst growing up.

Create and share your work. Your voice needs to be heard and has a right to be seen within this industry. There is a lack of presence for female POC artists and we need to shine more light on those who are trying to find their way through the industry.

Do you have any advice for other women who are aspiring to work in your field?

What type of music do you like to listen to?

All types: rnb, hip hop, pop, cpop, jpop, kpop

What’s your favorite local food spot?

Chinatown – dim sum (needs no explanation)

Chi Ngo asks: Where do you usually go to clear your head?

I usually exercise to clear my head and I find that really helps. Usually, I go to the gym but now I workout at home.

Vishakha Darbha asks: What is your biggest motivating factor?

I’m enthusiastic about learning and improving my craft – I want to keep growing as a 3D artist and provide a voice as a POC female artist.

What question would you like us to ask the next artist?

Do you ever feel any imposter syndrome and when?
